Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Forecast for Friday 5th through to Monday 8th September

Warmer temperatures return with relatively strong southerly winds. This will see Dublin receive swell and wind on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Donegal bay will receive plenty of waves and wind giving great conditions for the weekend ahead.

East Coast – Dublin Area

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: Not much chance of waves today in Dublin bay.

  • Saturday: Small 1.1 metre swell at 5 seconds will build slightly in the afternoon reaching 1.3 metres at 5 seconds at around 5pm. Probably not enough to see a wave in Dublin bay but down into Wicklow there should be enough for beginners. Winds will be from the south east giving onshore conditions in most locations.

  • Sunday: 2.4 metres at 7 seconds from the south east at 9am. This will be accompanied by south east winds. From 1pm the swell will start to drop but the wind will also turn SSW giving offshore conditions for many East coast spots. This is a great surf forecast - get on it if you can.

  • Monday: There should be some residual swell today with a 1.9 metre southerly swell at 9 am dropping slowly through the day. Winds will be from the SSW giving offshore conditions at a number of East coast spots.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 7-13 knots from the WSW turning more SW as the day goes on. Not a lot of wind - maybe best holding off for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

  • Saturday: 14-23 knots from the south east at 9am increasing very slightly for the afternoon. Good forecast for wing, kite or windsurfing.

  • Sunday: Early morning offers the best of the wind with 22-37 knots from the SSE at 7am. The wind will then drop considerably by 11am and then turn into the SSW and settle at around 13-20 knots. Still enough wind to get out but the best of it will definitely be first thing in the morning.

  • Monday: 12-24 knots from the SSW at 9am increasing slightly until 3pm before starting to drop off.

West Coast – Donegal Bay

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: 1.6 metre west swell at 9 seconds with south west winds. Smallish swell but there should be beginner friendly waves at exposed beaches.

  • Saturday: 1.8 metre WNW swell at 10 seconds increasing to 12 seconds in the evening. Winds will be from the south east all day giving great surf all day long. Get on it if you can.

  • Sunday: 1.7 metre WNW swell at 11 seconds. This will drop off slightly in the early afternoon before picking up again at around 3pm. Winds will go from SSE in the early morning to southerly in mid morning to south west by 5pm. Lots of potential today!

  • Monday: 3 metre swell at 11 seconds from the west. Winds will be strong from the south in the morning before turning more SSW in the afternoon.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 12-16 knots from the SSW in the morning with the wind fluctuating in strength throughout the day. Should be enough for wing.

  • Saturday: From 11am the wind will reach 19-28 knots from the SSE and stay pretty much in this range for the whole day. Great forecast for windsports.

  • Sunday: 20-30 knots from the south initially before turning into the SSW at 3pm. Great forecast again today.

  • Monday: 20-30 knots from the south up until 1pm before turning into the SSW for the rest of the afternoon.

NB: This is all subject to change at short notice. This being Ireland weather systems are volatile and a forecast made even the night before can change over night. Hopefully this forecast blog can give a good prediction of what will happen in the days ahead so you can plan the days you look to go on the water but it is always a good idea to check more location specific forecasting models before you go both to know what equipment to bring and for safety.
