Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Forecast for Friday 26th April through to Monday 29th April

Mixed bag for the weekend. Those in Dublin will have some swell on Monday and some wind 3 days out of 4. Donegal bay will have surf of some description all four days with Friday offering the best conditions. Monday looks like the only definite windy day for the north west.

East Coast – Dublin Area

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: Not much chance of surf today.

  • Saturday: Maybe a few mini waves south of Dublin bay but not a whole lot going on.

  • Sunday: No waves today. Might be nice for a paddleboarding session with light winds and temperatures reaching double digits in the afternoon.

  • Monday: A southerly wind swell of 1.4 metres at 5 seconds will build from 10 am on reaching 1.8 metres at 6 seconds. Winds will be from the south. Potential for Dublin bay but best conditions will be down in Wicklow – particularly Magheramore where the head land will give some protection from the wind.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 9-15 knots from the ENE at 11am building to 11-18 knots by 1pm. Will drop down a bit from then. Should be enough to get going with wing, windsurf gear or kite.

  • Saturday: 9-14 knots from the ENE. Good day for foiling or big kites/sails.

  • Sunday: Wind looks a little light.

  • Monday: 9-16 knots from the south for most of the day, picking up just before dark. Foiling or bigger kite/windsurf gear.

West Coast – Donegal Bay

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: 2 metre swell from the WNW at 11 seconds will increase slightly from 1pm onwards. Winds will be from the ENE to north east for most of the day giving potential for great conditions at lots of spots that are westerly facing. Best surf day for quite a while looking at the forecast.

  • Saturday: Surf drops off quite a bit but there should still be enough for westerly facing beaches with Tullan probably being a reasonable size. 1.5 metres at 11 seconds from the WNW first thing but dropping off as the day goes on. Winds will be light and from the east initially so if you are looking for clean conditions a dawnie is definitely the best option.

  • Sunday: 1.1 metres at 9 seconds with light, variable wind. Should be a fun beginner/longboard wave on most beachies.

  • Monday: 1.1 metres at 8 seconds from the WNW. Not a great forecast but there will still be something on exposed beach breaks. Winds will be moderate from the south turning into the south west as the day goes on.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: Not a whole lot of wind today.

  • Saturday: Light winds again today picking up slightly around 3pm. Maybe enough for a wing.

  • Sunday: No wind today. Great day to break out the paddleboard.

  • Monday: 12-18 knots from the south in the morning – turning more into the south west as the day goes on and dropping off. Best get on it early!

NB: This is all subject to change at short notice. This being Ireland weather systems are volatile and a forecast made even the night before can change over night. Hopefully this forecast blog can give a good prediction of what will happen in the days ahead so you can plan the days you look to go on the water but it is always a good idea to check more location specific forecasting models before you go both to know what equipment to bring and for safety.
