Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Forecast for Friday 2nd May through to Monday 5th May

Dublin bay will see little in the way of swell but there will be some wind at times. Donegal bay will have waves all weekend if you can travel around the coastline. Wind forecast is also good for Friday, Saturday and Monday.

East Coast – Dublin Area

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: No surf today

  • Saturday: No surf today.

  • Sunday: Not a lot of swell today. Best bet for small beginners waves would be down in Wicklow.

  • Monday: No waves today.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: Not a lot of wind today.

  • Saturday: There is a small window in the afternoon from about 1pm through to 4pm where the wind will peak at about 12-20 knots from the NNE. Definitely worth aiming to get out then.

  • Sunday: Best of the wind will be between 11am and 2pm. The wind will reach 11-18 knots from the ENE for a few hours before slowly dropping off.

  • Monday: 7-14 knots from the ENE for much of the day. Foil friendly conditions or if windsurf/kite on big gear.

West Coast – Donegal Bay

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: 2 metre north west swell at 11 seconds. Plenty of swell but winds will be from the north west making clean conditions hard to find.

  • Saturday: 1.4 metres north west swell at 8 seconds building slightly through the day. Exposed beaches will offer the best conditions with northerly winds limiting the potential for clean waves.

  • Sunday: 1.7 metre NNW swell at 8 seconds dropping slowly through the day. Swell will be limited to northerly facing coasts. Winds will be from the NNE limiting the chance of finding offshore conditions.

  • Monday: Small west swell (less than a metre) at 9 seconds. Winds will be very light from the WNW. Best bet for waves would be Tullan strand.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 11-15 knots from the north west from about lunch time on. Foil friendly conditions.

  • Saturday: Good forecast for the afternoon. 15-19 knots at 3pm from the north picking up to 16-22 knots for the rest of the day.

  • Sunday: Best of the wind will be in the morning - 14-19 knots from the north east at 9am but then dropping through the day.

  • Monday: Very little wind today.

NB: This is all subject to change at short notice. This being Ireland weather systems are volatile and a forecast made even the night before can change over night. Hopefully this forecast blog can give a good prediction of what will happen in the days ahead so you can plan the days you look to go on the water but it is always a good idea to check more location specific forecasting models before you go both to know what equipment to bring and for safety.
