Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Forecast for Friday 8th August through to Monday 11th August

Dublin bay will see wind on Friday and Saturday but will become more settled on Sunday and Monday with not much chance of surf on any of the days. Donegal bay will see wind every day with Friday and Saturday offering great conditions. There will be swell all weekend too with Friday and Saturday offering the biggest conditions. Sunday and Monday will still have surf just a good bit smaller.

East Coast – Dublin Area

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: Not much chance of waves today in Dublin bay. There is the possibility of small beginner friendly waves down into Wicklow - particularly in the evening.

  • Saturday: Again not much in the way of waves in Dublin bay but there may be fun waves for learning from Brittas bay south.

  • Sunday: No waves today.

  • Monday: No waves today.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 11-21 knots from the WSW. Looks like nice conditions for wing and windsurfing.

  • Saturday: 14-26 knots from the south west before decreasing slightly at around 1pm and turning more westerly. Great forecast for wind sports.

  • Sunday: Not a lot of wind today.

  • Monday: Not a lot of wind today.

West Coast – Donegal Bay

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: 2.6 metres at 10 seconds at 9am. Swell will stay at around this size until 2pm when it starts to increase reaching 2.9 metres by dark. Winds will be from the WSW giving clean waves in a number of spots around Donegal Bay.

  • Saturday: 3.3 metre swell at 12 seconds at 9am decreasing very slowly through the day. Winds will be from the WSW in the morning before turning more westerly at around 1pm. The swell will be pumping but you will have to find more tucked away spots to find clean waves.

  • Sunday: 1.8 metre swell at 10 seconds from the west. Swell will drop slowly through the day so to make the best of the conditions get on it early. Winds are from the south to south east giving offshore conditions in lots of spots around the bay.

  • Monday: Swell continues to drop off but there will still be 1.3 metres at 8 seconds from the west so very exposed spots will see swell hitting. Winds will be from the south in the morning giving offshore conditions in lots of spots. Wind will turn into the NNW from 3pm on but remain very light so conditions should remain good.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 19-27 knots from the south west for much of the day. It will increase at around 6pm to 22-30 knots. The forecast for the entire day is really good. Get on it if you can.

  • Saturday: 19-25 knots from the WSW for much of the day before turning into the west and dropping very slightly in the afternoon. Great conditions all day!

  • Sunday: Best of the wind will be from the 11am - 5pm with southerly winds in the 13-23 knot range. Good conditions again.

  • Monday: Today the wind conditions are marginal.

NB: This is all subject to change at short notice. This being Ireland weather systems are volatile and a forecast made even the night before can change over night. Hopefully this forecast blog can give a good prediction of what will happen in the days ahead so you can plan the days you look to go on the water but it is always a good idea to check more location specific forecasting models before you go both to know what equipment to bring and for safety.
